Hi, I’m Mary. And my life, it’s kinda crazy.

My life actually isn’t all that wild, but I love that TikTok. 

 

To actually begin, this project was for my Writing Capstone course at the University of Michigan. The whole semester has been centered around individual projects with only two requirements: writing and multi-media. Other than that, it was up to my classmates and I to figure out what we would like to create. I decided to write about dreams and create a magazine.

 

Writing a magazine wasn’t my original idea, but I chose and stuck with this genre because I wanted to break down my research. I wanted to focus on creative non-fiction writing, but I struggled explaining how to lucid dream and summarizing the scientific studies I found. To keep my essay personal, I moved the how to part into its own piece and was then able to balance the research with my experiences. This is the same reason why I discuss movies in another essay.

 

By splitting up different elements and giving more space to each, I went more in-depth that I would’ve been able to originally. I also dipped into my artistic side, which I rarely do, in the designing of the magazine. I wanted some fun colors and images to accompany my writing. I also hope to work in the publishing industry so this project helped to practice the skills I may use.

Alright, that’s my project but what about me? Hi, again, I’m Mary. I’m from Hawaii and moved here to Michigan for college. This spring I’ll major in English with a minor in environmental science and writing. My after-graduation, post-college, real-world, life is uncertain. I’m taking one step at a time as I find my way. As I do so, I enjoy reading and spending time with my golden-doodle Leo.
